KARVES

Bosa Goodale

Special Populations Coordinator

Bosa Goodale has one of those positions where she must wear "many hats."   Not only is she the Special Populations Coordinator and Career Dean for Kankakee Area Regional Vocational Education Systems (KARVES), she is also an intricate member of the KACC administrative team.

The term special populations refers to any student who is disadvantaged in any of a number of ways.  The disadvantages could be from a learning disability, physical disability, limited English, economic disadvantage, etc.  For these students, Mrs. Goodale works to ensure every effort is made within KACC and area high schools to ensure the highest academic success possible.

One of the areas not generally known to the public where KARVES and Mrs. Goodale become involved are in the area of tutoring services.   Not only is there a Learning Center with three tutors available to KACC students, there are several tutors assigned to area high schools who meet with CTE students and try to help them continue on the path to graduation.

Ms. Goodale also regularly interacts with school counselors and coordinates quarterly meetings of area-wide counselors where information is disseminated and peer assistance encouraged.  This committee, the Student Services Committee, is chaired by BBCHS Counselors Steve Wonder and Deb Howard.

Within the Career Center, Mrs. Goodale compiles information concerning student's who have IEP's and works with the faculty to ensure any special needs for any student are addressed.

Ms. Goodale also administers the main federal grant, Perkins, which supports career and technical education in the KARVES district.   She is consistently planning and budgeting to ensure everyone has the equipment and supplies needed to make the most of the individual curriculum.

At the elementary grade level, Mrs. Goodale is responsible for 8th Grade Career Awareness program, Construction Trades Expo, Egg-Drop Technology Program and working a myriad ways to enhance career exploration and awareness.

Before coming to KACC, Mrs. Goodale went to Northern Illinois University to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Finance. She then worked in the business community for several years before enrolling at Governor's State University where she earned her Master's in Business Administration.

Mrs. Goodale is one of the those people who strives to never stop learning.  She is currently back in school and is one class away from being able to test for what is called a Type 75 Certification.  This Type 75 is what is needed to qualify for a principal's position.    Knowing Mrs. Goodale, she'll probably wind up looking at getting her Ph.D. one of these days as well.   She says her father continues to this day, to encourage her to keep going to school.

Mrs. Goodale's first job in education was teaching in the Troy/Joliet School District for a couple of years. Mrs Goodale stated she was working at WILCO (the KACC of the Joliet Area) when she found out there was an administrative position opening at KACC. Mrs. Goodale certainly wasn't going to let it pass her by and for the past four years now, Mrs. Goodale has been here at KACC and says she is very happy and enjoys the changes and challenges of her position.

Not only does Mrs. Goodale enjoy her position at KACC, she states she loves being in a school environment and really enjoys the faculty and staff with whom she works.  She is always able to mix lots of work with a little bit of fun.
