KACC Announces 2008 Student of the Year

Congratulations Alyssa Mericle

Principal Tom Hahs recently announced Alyssa Mericle, Cosmetology student from Herscher High School, has been awarded the 2008 KACC Student of the Year Award.

Student names are submitted by KACC faculty members with explanations as to why their individual student is deserving of such an honor.   While many students at KACC are exemplary, Alyssa Mericle stood out from the crowd.

According to her instructor, Christie Mayer, Alyssa "has a commendable work ethic; she stays focused and on task to complete things to the best of her ability."  Alyssa has an excellent attendance record and has proven herself to be very reliable.

In addition to her Cosmetology program here at KACC, Alyssa participates in many sports activities and is on the publications staff at Herscher High School.  She was also one of the KACC students on the SkillsUSA Leadership Committee and is publisher of the monthly Skills newsletter.  In her spare time, Alyssa volunteers helping patients during various activities at the Miller Nursing Home and Manteno Veterans Home.  "Alyssa always has a smile on her face and is willing to offer a helping hand" says Mrs. Mayer.

As far as Alyssa's plans following graduation, she wrote in her essay she wants to "extend my studies to the Midwest College of Cosmetology to be trained in massage therapy and esthetics.  I will also be taking business classes at Lincoln College of Bloomington.  My goals are to master the separate courses I study in order to gain the knowledge and experience needed to eventually open my own salon.  I feel confident all of my training here at KACC will help make the decisions in my future to meet and exceed my goals."

Based upon her proven abilities to exceed at school, on the field, and within our community, we have no doubt Alyssa will be a tremendous success and an excellent example of a KACC graduate.

Congratulations and best of luck!
