Business / CAD Joint Project A Big Success
Sequels can be better than the first show! Once again, Mrs. Zurek’s Business Class and Mr. Kelley’s Drafting / CAD class joined forces proving great things can happen when people work as a team. The students and teachers of these courses pooled their resources in a collaborative effort to bring entrepreneurial spirit to life. In addition, another component of this lesson was to experience and resolve the challenges which occur with differing objectives ~ all the while keeping the project moving forward.
The basis of the project was the same as last year - each Business student designed a concept for a new business to be located within a mall setting, this year named Career Center Commons. Unlike last year's strip mall, this year’s mall was a group of buildings located around a landscaped common area with a gazebo, picnic areas, and an outdoor theatre ~ all designed by the students. The commons were specifically designed to allow for warm weather spaces, complementing the businesses, including outdoor dining, sales display areas, and a farmer’s market.
The Business students began with their Business plan, which included initial ideas about the size of the space they needed for their business to function well and be inviting. Much attention and study was given to developing the main entry with display windows to draw people into their business. There was great communication back-and-forth between the drafting designers and the business students in order to refine their designs.
The teams did a final presentation of their work, showing business plans, key organizing concepts, floor plans and front elevations. The projects are attached to this article. Please take a few minutes and enjoy the efforts and accomplishments of the students by viewing the two links below.
