KARVES Learning Center Scholarships Awarded
Kankakee Area Regional Vocational Education System (KARVES) has awarded two, $250 Scholarships. The Scholarships are awarded to senior students at Kankakee Area Career Center (KACC) based upon their hard work and education to their occupational math and reading studies. Interestingly enough, this year, both students selected came from Janice Krizik's Law Enforcement program.
In occupational reading, Hector Sandoval received the $250 scholarship award. Hector, a senior at Grant Park High School, stated he "moved to Grant Park Six years ago, from a different country, with a different language from a small town in Mexico...My family moved here without knowing how to read, write or speak any English. To learn this language was one of the most difficult things for me, when the only language I spoke was Spanish." Hector also says he has been interested in law enforcement since he was ten years old and is planning to attend Kankakee Community College where he will continue his law enforcement studies and eventually transferring to a four-year college. According to Mrs. Krizik, his instructor, "Hector is always eager to learn, tries his best, and has an ability to make the best out of any situation. He is always one of the first students to return homework, which is completed with obvious time and effort in each assignment. His dedication and commitment to education as well as his great attitude toward others has been a pleasure to witness."
The second student, selected from occupational Math, is Lee Caddell. Lee is a senior student attending Bradley-Bourbonnais Community High School. Lee says he is "appreciative for the program and support and encouragement from my teacher, Ms. Krizik...she has helped me realize my desire to study and create realistic goals in the field of Criminal Justice. Lee also plans on attending Kankakee Community College to obtain an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice. He says attending KCC will "offer me the opportunity to stay involved in my community, obtain a higher education." According to Ms. Krizik, "Lee is an organized individual who has a great career plan....He is a motivated individual who always gets the job done when given a task or project. When I think of the future of law enforcement, I am proud to know we will be in good hands with Lee in that field.
