Teaching the Teachers of Tomorrow

Jennifer Leighter-Yeates, KACC's Child Development/Early Childhood Education(ECE) Instructor, “believes in teaching teachers." She puts her belief into action by preparing an excellent curriculum for our KACC students..

Mrs. Leighter-Yeates brings great experience and a true depth of knowledge to the classroom. Mrs. Leighter-Yeates' background includes having taught in the elementary classroom for 14 years.  She then accepted a position teaching high school students Child Development/ ECE at WILCO (similar school like ours).  Mrs. Leighter-Yeates has additional experience as she was the director of a preschool.  She has also worked as a teacher’s aide and as an educational sign language interpreter for the Deaf.  Mrs. Leighter-Yeates is currently teaching at the college level.  She is an adjunct faculty member at Kankakee Community College and was previously at Wabaunsee Community College.

Mrs. Leighter-Yeates continues to put her myriad skill sets to work.   She currently freelances as a sign language interpreter as well as a tutor for the Deaf and those persons wishing to learn American Sign Language.

On a personal note, Mrs. Leighter-Yeates is married and has three step-sons, ages 21, 20 and 15. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri and is a graduate of Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, Master of Arts in Teaching from Webster University and a Master of Liberal Arts degree from Baker University.

KACC administration, faculty and students are glad Mrs. Leighter-Yeates made the decision to join us at KACC. We look forward to working with her in the years to come.
