Fire-Rescue-EMS Students Have Whirlwind of Experiences

Ed Leeson, fire-Rescue-EMS Instructor for KACC has teamed up with community leaders to provide his students with some incredible experiences.

From Medical Evacuation, to Auto Extrication and water rescue, these students have been busy.

Our Thanks to Superior Ambulance for providing a Medivac Helicopter landing and tour for our students.  Not only was this an incredible experience for our Fire students, our Law Enforcement students and Preschool lab 3 to 5 year olds, not to mention faculty and staff, were all given a chance to view it up close.   As Mr. Leeson stated, "It was an experience they will never forget."

Flight Paramedics Jessica Vertolitti and Amanda Fagen both started their careers as EMT's and worked there way up to where they are now.  This set a great example for our students to better realize that any career goal "can be achieved as long as they are willing to work hard and devote themselves to achieving their goals."

Manteno Fire Protection District Chief Scott O'Brien, treated our Fire-Rescue-EMS students to an auto extrication procedure demonstration. B/C Rick Peterson and Lt. Jeff Turrell shared their knowledge and expertise and because of them and the Manteno District, students were able to use the "Jaws of Life," a rare treat for sure.

KACC Fire students traveled to the YMCA to work on water rescue techniques.  The use of the pool way key in giving students experience.  This practical skill is required in order for students to become certified through the IL Dept. of Public Health as Emergency Medical Responders.  Many of the students were inquiring about lifeguard training at the YMCA.

Mr. Leeson, his students and KACC Administration know full-well the value of partnering with professionals from our community. These hands-on experiences are an incredible enhancement to our curriculum.

Thank you Superior Ambulance, Manteno Fire Protection District and YMCA of Kankakee for helping us fulfill our motto: Preparing Students for Tomorrow.
