Marla Miller, R.N.
C.N.A. Clinical Supervisor
Marla Miller says that beginning her training and entering the profession of nursing as a "non-traditional student" opened an entire new world for her. She started her new career at Kankakee Community College while her two youngest sons were in high school. There's the non-traditional part - a mom of high schoolers entering college - great for those of us who believe the importance of never stop learning!
After Ms. Miller completed the LPN Program at KACC, she bridged into the second semester of the RN Program and was able to graduate three semesters later.
Ms. Miller brings a wide variety of experience to the C.N.A. Students here at the Career Center. She has worked in areas from long-term care, to the emergency room, surgical intensive care, home health as well as oncology. Fun fact, Ms. Miller was also a flight attendant as well. She says she "used by RN skills daily on most flights, so to say the least, I have been around the world and back."
This fine C.N.A. Clinical instructor has been with KACC since September of 2015. She accompanies students to the KACC lab to work on 21 basic skills, as well as to the two-day-per week clinical intern sessions at the Manteno Veteran's Home.
Ms. Miller is married, and has a blended family of five children, nine grandchildren and will have nine great-grandchildren by October. "I love spending time with my family (including my senior parents), decorating, reading, scrapbooking, sewing, traveling and being by the water. My husband and I have spent the majority of our lives boating as one of our favorite pastimes."
