Melissa Kapidis

Early Childhood Education-Preschool Lab Instructor

KACC is delighted to have  Melissa Kapidis as a member of  faculty.  Mrs. Kapidis will be teaching Child Development Preschool I and II.  She joins the KACC team, bringing wonderful education and a wide range of professional and community experience with her.

Mrs. Kapidis says she is “Very excited and I feel privileged to work at a great school with great educators and administration! I am looking forward to teaching students from all districts around the area and making a difference in their education. My philosophy is that students learn in an environment where they feel safe and cared about. Learning is fun and that is what we are doing while we learn in my classroom.”

Mrs. Kapidis graduated from Daley College right after high school with an Associates degree in Liberal Arts.  She went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Governor State University and received a Special Education endorsement during that time as well.

Mrs. Kapidis has never tired of learning and has just graduated with her Masters Degree in Special Education in 2016 and also obtained her Learning Behavior Specialist endorsement (LBS1).

While well-educated indeed, Mrs. Kapidis has a unique background as well.  While at college, she exposed herself to many different careers before becoming what is her dream job - a teacher. She worked in the restaurant business with her parents, volunteered at Misericordia in Chicago, read books to children and held the infants who needed that loving care. She also worked in Downtown Chicago as an Office Manager.

Mrs. Kapidis married in 2005 moving to Bourbonnais with her husband and son the following year.  Shortly after moving to Bourbonnais, the Kapidis family was blessed with a second son.

Mrs. Kapids  taught in the Dwight district her first year as the early childhood teacher. Her class consisted of 8 students who had greater needs and benefited from a small class size. Most of the students were nonverbal and needed a lot of support to learn.

Mrs. Kapidis then went to work for Mary Sears Children’s Academy. She worked in all aspects of the childcare center serving infants to children 12 years old. Mrs. Kapidis then worked in the Manteno School District for 5 years. She taught the Early Childhood class and The Preschool For All program. The past two audits of the program were Gold status.

Outside the classroom, Mrs. Kapidis is involved with her children’s schools and is a part of the PTA, formerly serving as vice-president and ran Market Day for schools in the Bourbonnais district. Mrs. Kapidis continues to be very involved with her children’s sporting activities. Both children play baseball and basketball. Her oldest plays football and her youngest plays soccer.

Mrs. Kapidis enjoys camping and watching her children play sports. She loves playing with her Great Dane, Morgan and enjoys spending time with her family and reading books.
