Dan Gesell

Much More than the Numbers Guy

From the get-go in October of 2010, Dan Gesell became an important cog in our wheel here at the Career Center as well as the Kankakee Area Regional Vocational Educaiton System EFE120 (KARVES).  KARVES and KACC were between bookkeepers, just trying to ensure employees and vendors were paid, needed equipment and supplies were purchase, and grant funding continued coming in.

Dan rolled up his sleeves, dug in, and wow - almost 10 years later, we cannot imagine him not in his office orchestrating a variety of tasks.  Yes, Dan's original position as bookkeeper has grown over the years.  He has taken on much of the building operations duties, helping oversee and schedule building maintenance and refurbishment projects, scheduling and overseeing custodial, landscaping and snow removal staffs.

Dan says he considers his position at the Career Center as a "behind the scenes job."  He is, of course, primarily taking care of payroll, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, assisting Director Kelley in the budgeting process, and is a member of the KACC Insurance Committee.

Mr. Gesell earned his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Illinois State University.  He pursued his dream of working as a Financial Controller for a steel fabrication company for 18 years before joining KACC.  He says that his past experience has helped KACC stay on track with the financial reporting and daily accounting activities of the school.

Mr. Gesell says he enjoys seeing students attend KACC.  It is a "perfect opportunity" for the students to test out potential career paths.  Coming from an industry environment, he is keenly aware of the value CTE holds for students at any age, stating "Students can gain skills in their trade and have the opportunity to excel with the excellent instructors and administrative staff.  I was amazed on how many dual college credits a student can acquire while attending KACC not to mention, building a house every three years."

Mr. Gesell - affectionately called "Dan the Man" around the administrative office, also is a frequent volunteer for extra curricular activities, including KACC's Scholarship Golf Outing.

Along with his wife, Cathy and two daughters, Mr. Gesell resides in Manteno.  His daughter, Danielle is a junior at Manteno High School, and his daughter, Christine, is a senior at Illinois State University majoring in Graphic Communications.  Mr. Gesell was born and raised a Cardinal Fan (we don't hold that against him).  In his spare time, Mr. Gesell says he enjoys outdoor adventures with his family.
