Robert de Oliveira - A Treasure Trove of Knowledge, Experience and Compassion
Merriam-Webster defines a treasure trove as a valuable discovery, resource, or collection. That's what we at KACC have found in Mr. Robert de Oliveira. His treasure comes in the form of knowledge, experience and compassion, topped off with a dedication to assist students grow into young professionals.
A little insight into Mr. de Oliveira's biography we think will help folks understand his ability to make a positive difference within the walls of KACC and in the lives of our students. His proven track record to continuing education, reaching out to serve his community for the betterment of all - transitions well to providing great information and a fine example for our students here at KACC.
Bob de Oliveira, Mr. de, as he is affectionately known, was born in New York and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He immigrated to Kankakee in the early 1980’s. Not only did he attend Bradley Bourbonnais Community High School, he actually attended KACC and is an official KACC Alumnus.
Mr. de spent 14 years at Amita st. Mary's Hospital before he went on to pursue his associate degree at Kankakee Community College. He was not then, and will never be done learning. He went on to earn his B.A. in social Studies Education from Olivet Nazarene University. As is his way, Mr. de kept going. He earned two master's degrees; one in School Leadership from ONU, and another in Latin American Studies from Chicago State University where he graduated with distinction.
While Mr. de served as an adjunct professor at Olivet Nazarene University, he became involved in various local and state governing boards. In 2016, he was the recipient of the John M. Fulton Distinguished Alumni Award. He currently serves in The KCC Foundation Board of Trustees. He presides as board president of the Kankakee County Museum Board not to mention being a member of Riverside Hospital Family and Patient Advisory Board, and the Kankakee Hispanic Partnership. Bob de Oliveira has just recently been asked to join the Illinois Second Congressional District Educator Advisory Council.
