Law Enforcement
The Kankakee Area Career Center's Law Enforcement class allows students an opportunity to develop their knowledge in a variety of areas relating to law enforcement careers.
Janice Krizik, retired Sheriffs' Police Officer, introduces students to patrolling, field operations, observations and perceptions, communications, reporting and records. Also included in the curriculum are interviewing techniques, routine police assignments, handling crime scenes, preliminary investigations, pursuit and arrest.
Students will study search and custody procedures as well as police security services. In this pre-law enforcement course, students' experiences will involve simulations, demonstrations, guest lectures, tours and a shadowing program.
The KACC Law Enforcement program utilizes the textbook "Intro to Criminal Justice. The program is also articulated with the community college law enforcement program at Prairie State College.
Students who attend KACC's Law Enforcement program will have the opportunity to compete in the Illinois State SkillsUSA competition. Those who earn a first place earn the privilege of going to National SkillsUSA competition, typically held in June of each year.
