As principal of the Kankakee Area Career Center, I am honored to share information concerning our welding instructor, Michael Spangler's nomination to be the 2011 Teacher of the Year in the State of Illinois.  Students Grant Johnson and Eric Janssen spearheaded the application process and initiated the first student letter written by Eric.

Mr. Spangler has a long history of inspiring his students to excel, evidenced by the many who have taken his college class at KCC concurrently on Saturday mornings in addition to coming to the Career Center Mondays through Fridays.

In addition to his students, written recommendations were submitted to the selection committee by Eric and Mary Anne Johnson, Grant's parents; a fellow teacher, Debi Zurek; Assistant Principal Matt Kelley; KACC/KARVES Director Don Fay; and, from the Welding Profession, John Willard, Treasurer of the American Welding Society, Joliet/Aurora/ Kankakee Division.

The accolades given to Mr. Spangler from this group of people truly reflects his dedication to his craft, his students, and maintaining excellence in education.  To view the letters written on his behalf, please click on the link below.
