A Parent Says Thank You Career Center!

With Deepest Gratitude, Cindy M. Poort

Sometimes, especially during the holiday season, it is nice to share good news and expressions of thanks.  In that spirit, the following is a reprint of a letter received by KACC's principal, Bosa Goodale, from a KACC parent, Cindy Poort. The letter is as follows:

"I am the parent of a currently enrolled student at KACC and of a former graduate and recipient of a KCC Scholarship awarded through your program. Your school has given hope to so many who would otherwise feel undecided and unprepared to enter the workforce and attend college following high school.  My son, who graduated two years ago, would have never even considered college had it not been for the confidence and compassion shown to him at KACC.

High school was difficult for him, and as a KACC student, your staff addressed his need to feel competent and strong in a field which he could excell.  Not every student is going to feel comfortable attending a four year college directly out of high school; nor is every student going to be able to afford to attend a four year college.

With the recent recession, many students cannot find the funds to attend college and the skills and college credits they acquire at KACC really give them a leg-up on the job search.  A student who has acquired a C.N.A. license or who may have received their certificate in Welding can apply for jobs during their Junior and Senior summer terms which helps them gain knowledge in a field as well as make connections enabling them to remain employed quite often throughout their continuing education term.

My oldest son was blessed to be in the Welding Program for his junior and senior year of high school.  I never once heard him complain about attending his classes.  His instructor brought in successfully graduated students to speak with his students and help them make career choices.  They held job seminars where students could ask questions of successful contractors/professionals this gave so many of these students just the right amount of support and knowledge to enhance job placement.  They were also able to acquire safety certificates and credentials needed to apply for job placement.

My son was blessed to be a recipient of a KCC scholarship through the KACC.  He would not have attended college without this opportunity.  He really had not even thought about it.  His classes from KACC transferred credit to KCC and he is on his way to having completed his degree this spring.  He has also completed many courses needed for several certificates in the field of welding.  He has been hired at a manufacturing plant in Mokena, Illinois as an apprentice/intern and this job came about because of the outstanding credentials he gained at the KACC and KCC.

Please know that the work you do at the KACC is instrumental in allowing young people to excel in a world that at times, is unpredictable and often unforgiving.  Confidence can make all of the difference when it comes to success or failure.  I will always be grateful to the staff of KACC for all of their hard work and dedication to our students.  I hope that this facility will be around for a very long time encouraging students and bringing piece of mind to so many parents, who find it hard to sleep at night with the current economic times."

Our thanks to Mrs. Poort for taking the time to let us know her thoughts about KACC and its positive effect on her sons.

Happy Holidays!
