Emerging Workforce and Career Path Conference Held at KACC
Kankakee Area Career Center became a business hub of local professionals on May 5th. KACC, along with the Kankakee Area Regional Vocational Education System (KARVES) hosted their 2nd Annual Emerging Workforce and Career Path Conference for the almost 800 students at the Kankakee Area Career Center.
Through the generosity of our business community, student were given excellent information on local and regional career opportunities available to them after high school and post-secondary education/training. Business leaders were able to explain the variety of career paths and corresponding education and training requirements to achieve and be successful in these careers.
Gone are the days of a high school graduate expecting to follow in dad’s footsteps without some additional education after high school. What that education looks like nowadays is as wide and diverse as the careers themselves. No longer does a traditional 4-year college degree ensure employability: Today’s emerging workforce requires students to make informed decisions when determining their future education and how it matches to future employment prospects and trends.
According to Matthew Kelley, coordinator of the event and incoming Director of KARVES/KACC: “This fabulous group of professionals really engaged students’ curiosity and enhanced their awareness of the importance of having a good educational plan following high school.” Mr. Kelley stated he is committed to working with local business to keep programs, like this one, available to our local youth.
