One More Avenue KACC Takes to Preparing Students for Tomorrow

KACC students have been engaged in the Workplace Excellence Series, during the past two school years, earning badges – not traditional ones – electronic badges they can add to their electronic portfolio as well as their LinkedIn™, Facebook™ and Twitter™ Profiles.

There are ten modules within the Workplace Excellence Series – each designed to help students understand and be able to deliver what an employer really needs in today’s workforce.  Each module teaches KACC students from the employer’s perspective, allowing them an opportunity to develop practical skills in addition to their technical and academic skills.

The Career Services Department has wrapped their arms around this fabulous program and will be working with individual members of faculty and our students to ensure students are engaged and learning this oh, so important soft skills.

KACC Principal, Tim Guerin, has tasked the Career Services Department with this program to continue KACC’s history of delivering meaningful curriculum; giving KACC students a more diverse and business-centered education experience.   More and more businesses are recognizing the value to Workplace Excellence skills to developing a long-term employee.

The ten-module series includes:

  • ADAPTability
  • RESPECTability
  • COMMUNICATIONability
  • SUITability
  • DEPENDability
  • TRANSITIONability
  • PRESENTability
  • WORKability
  • REASONability
  • WRITEability

KACC Director, Matt Kelley often speaks about the importance of a KACC education. “Whether or not a student continues in the specific program area they studies here,” stated Kelley, “the skills learned at KACC are transferrable between any career field. “

Academic – Technical – and Workplace Excellence skill development makes for a well-educated and well-rounded employee for our local business community.  Again, this is one more avenue the Kankakee Area Career Center takes to Preparing Students for Tomorrow.
