KARVES School-To-Apprenticeship (STA) is a program for Juniors and Seniors in participating schools who are interested in a rewarding career in the construction trades.  It includes rigorous academic and technical preparation during the Junior Year.

Those who meet established standards may be selected for the second and final year which includes additional academic and technical preparation and a paid, supervised work experience, typically during the summer between the Junior and Senior Year.

During the Senior year, activities may include visiting apprenticeship facilities, mentoring juniors in the program, and/or assisting with the annual Construction Career Expo's.

Upon graduation, students are encouraged to apply for a federally recognized construction apprenticeship program.  While participating in the STA program does not guarantee graduates will be accepted into an apprenticeship, students should be well prepared to compete for available openings!

Student Requirements and Responsibilities

    • Successfully complete a participating Career and Technical Education(CTE) course during the 11th grade with a minimum grade of B
    • Maintain a minimum C overall GPA and a B in related CTE class(es) during the 11th grade
    • Maintain 95% attendance rate during 11th grade.
    • Have parental/guardian support
    • Demonstrate good citizenship, workplace ethics and behaviors
    • Demonstrate willingness to follow regulations and be self-disciplined.
    • Display dedication and commitment to fulfill all academic and vocational requirements.
    • Receive positive teacher references and support.
    • Have reliable transportation to and from work.
    • Maintain a valid driver's license and be insurable (students under 18 year of age are prohibited from any job-related driving).
    • Be interviewed and accepted by an employer approved by STA program.
    • Obtain a physical exam, including drug-testing.
    • Be physically able to perform duties associated with the trade.
    • Successfully complete the OSHA 10-hour construction safety course and Red Cross First Aid during assigned times.
    • Maintain weekly log and obtain signature from employer during work phase.

Once a Junior is accepted into the program, they must continue to maintain the 95% attendance rate during their senior year and maintain their C average GPA and B in related CTE classes to continue in the program.
