The event, "Small Business Salvation: Success through Entrepreneurship," was held at the Hilton Garden Inn

Kankakee Area Career Center’s Entrepreneurship team which, earned a gold medal at the recent State of Illinois SkillsUSA Contest in the Entrepreneurship category, was featured at this event. The Herscher and Beecher high school students who are a part of this time, will be among 4,600 competing at the 47th Annual National Leadership and Skills Conference June 19-24 in Kansas City, Missouri.  The team, comprised of Jake Hines, Andrew Bond, Joe Volek and Giovanni Schiavone have been well-prepared for the National Competition by their instructor, Deborah Zurek.  She, along with several other students and teachers will travel together with their focus on bringing home the gold!

"Small Business Salvation: Success through Entrepreneurship" was held in conjunction with National Small Business Week, which ran May 16-20, as well as Kankakee County's inaugural EnterpriseU Business Plan Competition.

Forty-four aspiring local small business owners are participating in Kankakee County's 2011 "EnterpriseU" Business Plan Competition. The initiative involves a three-month program of free educational sessions, networking opportunities and business plan mentoring. Ultimately, in June, three promising entrepreneurs will be awarded a generous prize package consisting of startup capital, free office space and much more. For further details, visit www.enterprise-u.com or phone 815-935-1177.

EnterpriseU is a program of the Economic Alliance of Kankakee County, Kankakee Community College, Community Foundation of Kankakee River Valley, the Daily Journal and LinkPoint Media in conjunction with many local business and agency partners.
