SCBA Training
SCBA - Self Contained Breathing Aparatus
Since January, the Fire-Rescue-EMR students have been continually training on the donning and doffing of their self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
In addition to this basic training, they have been practicing emergency procedures and methods on how to fit through restricted openings. The culmination to this training led to students being put through an obstacle course. fire-Rescue-EMS utilized this practical exercise as a program test to discern the skills and knowledge levels his students have attained.
Mr. Leeson utilized playground equipment located in KACC's Preschool Playground at the back of the school. The obstacles they had to negotiate through were various pieces of playground equipment. Students had their vision obscured so they couldn't see and had to follow a rope under, over, around, and through some very tight and confined spaces. Click on the picture and see full photo gallery:
In some cases, the openings were so small they had to remove the air packs from their backs to get through while still breathing air through their face pieces. When all was said and done, the students were amazed at what they had accomplished. Mr. Leeson said he students "seemed to develop a new sense of confidence in their abilities to use their SCBA.
Well done Fire-Rescue-EMR Students.
